The Word Angel: Qualified, Skilled, Experienced

About The Word Angel

I am Angel B.

I fell in love with the intricacies and technical details of the English language when I read Strunk & White's The Elements of Style in high school. I found the book riotously funny and carried it with me like a sacred text—a sure sign of a born editor.

After graduating from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City, I landed a job in the editorial department of the Modern Language Association. There, surrounded by some of the greatest editorial minds our country has to offer, I came to understand that beautiful writing is both an art and a craft—one that would take as much time, concentration, passion, and training to master as any other technical trade.

  • I work with all major style manuals: AP, APA, Chicago, MLA, and GPO.

  • I have been carefully trained in classic editorial notation to ensure clear communication on hard-copy text.

  • I have years of experience with electronic review commands in both MS Word (including Word Styles) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • My background includes graduate-level social statistics courses that allow me to provide in-depth review of quantitative materials.

  • I've offered editorial services since 2002.

  • My diverse list of current and former clients includes:

    • St. Martin's Press

    • Simon & Schuster

    • Cardozo School of Law

    • Rutgers' Education and Employment Research Center

    • Lumina Datamatics

    • Kaplan Test Prep

    • Public/Private Ventures

  • I hold an MA (ABD) in sociology from Rutgers University, where I am also an award-winning former part-time lecturer in sociology and expository writing.

  • I am a published author whose work has been issued by Duke University Press and the Journal of Sexuality & Culture.
